The Participant's Repose (working title) by Matthew Wooller
It hasn't been performed for over 75 years, an illusion so deadly that it has been shunned by the world of magic. Tonight - one gun, one bullet and one guess - will it be the right guess or the wrong guess? Only the pull of a trigger will reveal the answer. WARNING: Not for those of a nervous disposition.
Roles: 2, both non-gender specific.

Killer First Impressions (working title) by Salvador Esparza
First impressions can be tough. What to wear? What to say--or more importantly, what not to say? Young and eager, Andrew finds himself at an intimate dinner rendezvous with a man he would kill to meet. Will he gets what he's yearning for as the evening grows longer, the drinks grow stronger, and inhibitions are discarded?
Roles: 2 male, 1 non-gender specific

Thirty Seconds (working title) by Zachariah Chamberlaine
If you were going to be haunted, you'd want to be haunted by a real legend of a ghost – but not everyone gets their wish. This play contains two characters who never appear on stage as they possess various inanimate objects. The ghosts' soundtrack will be pre-recorded, so if you do voice acting for this play, you could also appear "live" in other plays.
2 voice acting roles: a nerdy ghost (M), an obnoxious ex (M)

Mrs. Claus by Leben Norrie
It’s late, Halloween night. Jerry, a tired and overworked detective, has been asked stay late and hold a suspect for questioning. Special Agent Johnson is certain she’s found the man she’s been hunting for years. Will she get the answers she needs? Is there more to this costumed stranger than ever imagined?
Roles: 1 Female / 2 Male

Dead With Benefits by Leben Norrie
(A Dark Comedy Sitcom with a Laugh Track)
On today's hilarious season finale, Jeff finds himself a “freshy”; but sometimes, if it seems too good to be true, it is. What insights and twists shall be uncovered when the stranger reveals a dark secret? They seem to make sitcoms about ANYTHING these days. “Dead With Benefits” is filmed in front of a live studio audience.
2 Roles: Male / Neutral

Departures by Emily Matthews
Charlie and Emma are on a trip, surviving the boredom of a long-haul flight by reminiscing about their lives growing up together. But there's something wrong that they can't quite put their fingers on...

Characters:
Emma - logical, sensible and patient... mostly;
Charlie - colourful, aggressive and energetic
Man - no lines, spends the play sleeping;
Flight attendant - short walk-ons, highly professional, slightly passive-aggressive

Submissions for short horror-themed plays

The Dark Secret webWe are looking for short plays to be included in a horror-themed Halloween show in cooperation with SATD.

If you are interested in proposing an original script of yours, please send Salvador and Leben your pitch (meaning they don't need to see a full script, but rather a breakdown of your concept) by 5 August. Leben and Salvador will review pitches and respond to proposals they'd like to include, and request finished scripts to be delivered by 26 August for workshopping and audition planning.

The following constraints should be kept in mind:
– The ultimate performance should be no longer than 20 minutes.
– Low-budget/low-set/low-tech/easy clean-up (ex., blood) will be the name of the game!
– You do not necessarily need to direct a script you wrote
– We're leaning into the dark, but do not lean into the pornographic.
– Horror can mean a lot of things. Psychological, supernatural, campy/comedic. Give us the parts of the genre that you love.

DIRECTORS
If you are interested in directing and not writing, e-mail Salvador and Leben as well, and we can keep you on standby as we review submissions. If a proposal is accepted that doesn't include a director, Salvador and Leben will reach out to you to gauge your interest with a particular script.

WHO DO I CONTACT?
Please reach out to Salvador Esparza (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Leben Norrie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) with either your proposal pitch or your directorial interest.

'Til then, stay vigilant out there. You never know what's in your closet.

Auditions for "Hogfather"

Hogfather audition imageWelcome to open auditions for Hogfather, written by Terry Pratchett and directed by Zach Chamberlaine. (Please note that you must book an audition time in order to participate.)
Hogfather is based on Terry Pratchett's popular Discworld novel of the same name.
Our story begins the night before Hogswatch, the last night of the year. Yet instead of the Hogfather, Death is creeping down chimneys with presents and trying to say "Ho Ho Ho".
The Auditors of Reality have been plotting again, and have hired the Assassin's Guild to eliminate the Hogfather in a more creative way than usual. And it's down to Susan, gothic governess and Death's granddaughter (sort of), to sort everything out by morning, otherwise there won't be a morning....
ROLES
There are 32 roles available for adults of all ages, genders and backgrounds, but there are a lot of roles for men in particular. Five actors will play one slightly larger role, whilst most people will play two–three smaller roles. Unlike many Pratchett plays, there is no ‘main character’, so stage time is more evenly distributed than usual. An almost full list of the roles is given in the audition form.
SKILLS WANTED
General acting skills, especially comedic acting. There are also some roles for beginners. The ability to do one or more different accents is an advantage for some roles. Experience with mask acting or singing would also be useful for some roles.
AVAILABILITY
You must be available for all of the final rehearsals (in the period 7–14 November) and the performances (in the period 16–30 November 2022).
You must be available for rehearsals on Monday evenings and Sunday afternoons in the period 14 August–6 November 2022. Although you will not have to attend every rehearsal, it is expected that you will have good availability for rehearsals.
Rehearsals and performances cannot be moved to accommodate actors' schedules.
HOW TO PREPARE
After registering, you will be provided with the script and some scenes to prepare. (There is no need to learn the lines by heart.) You will act out these scenes at the audition. You may also be asked to read in other parts, showcase your accent skills, or do some improvisation (with a focus on physical theatre and mask acting).
YOU MUST BOOK AN AUDITION TIME
You will be asked to choose your preferred one-hour audition slot when you fill out the audition form. However, we cannot guarantee that you will get your preferred time, and preferences will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis. We will confirm your allocated slot within a few days of receiving your audition form.
AUDITON FORM
Registration is not closed for this play.
DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION

Inkubator

inkubator ink splatWHAT IS INKUBATOR?
Inkubator is a programme to promote new scripts and provide opportunities for directors. The idea is start with a rehearsed reading, which if successful can be turned into a fully staged production. For those with some experience or a more fully developed script, it may be possible to move straight to a small production.

WHO IS INKUBATOR FOR?

Writers who have a new script they would like to fine tune by way of a rehearsed reading, with the possibility of a fully staged production for successful readings. With a more fully developed script, it may be possible to move straight to a small prodcution.

Directors who would like to gain more experience, either with a script they’ve written themselves, one of our Inkubator submissions, or another new or established play of their choice. We would prefer you to have at least some experience of directing – or at least acting in – live theatre. If you have no prior experience, we may be able to arrange a mentor with whom you can work on directing a shorter script.

WHAT KIND OF SCRIPTS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Language – all scripts must be in English
  • Genre – all genres are welcome
  • Full-length scripts for stand-alone shows (approx. 45–120 minutes)
  • Shorter scripts that can be made into double bills (approx. 20–40 minutes)
  • Staging – the cast size and staging requirements must be suitable for the NoName Theatre stage, that is, a very small and intimate black-box venue

WHAT DOES INKUBATOR OFFER?

  • rehearsal and performance time at the NoName Theatre
  • a modest budget for staging the show
  • auditions to find actors
  • support for tech, tickets sales, marketing and selected production tasks
  • a rehearsed reading, with the possibility of a fully staged production for successful shows

WHAT IS A REHEARSED READING?
In terms of staging, the exact nature of a rehearsed reading can vary according to the project. For Inkubator, a rehearsed reading will be a performance in which the actors will be very familiar with the play and their lines, but will not be expected to learn their lines by heart. They will therefore perform with script in hand, but otherwise treat it as a regular live theatre performance. Staging, lighting and sound effects will be minimal, and the audience will be expected to use their imagination.

There will be a single minimal set consisting of basic furniture that will be used for all scenes. There will be no dragging furniture on and off stage, and a simple chair will be expected to double for anything from a sofa to a throne.

Actors should wear suitable costumes to set the scene, but there should not be unnecessary costume changes. A few props that are absolutely essential for the plot are allowed, but nothing else. For example, it would look stupid to threaten someone with your fingers instead of a gun, but unnecessary items should be eliminated, even if they are mentioned in the script – particularly items such as drinking glasses, food, etc. Remember: actors will have scripts in hand.

The actors will rehearse their lines and some basic, essential movements to liven up the performance, but the acting area must be kept small and the goal is not to do every movement you would in a fully staged performance. Again: actors will have scripts in hand.

The aim is to create a simple and engaging performance with a minimum number of rehearsals and within a rehearsal period of no more than one month.

PERFORMANCE RIGHTS AND OTHER PAYMENTS
The Finn-Brit Players is an amateur theatre organisation that provides a framework in which people can engage in their hobby as actors and directors. Inkubator does not, therefore, offer paid positions or cover personal expenses for directors or actors. Amateur performance rights for scripts will be paid for fully staged productions in line with the length of the play and the size of the audience. Nominal performance rights will be paid for rehearsed readings on the same bases. All income from performances will go to the Finn-Brit Players.

HOW TO SUBMIT SCRIPTS, REGISTER INTEREST OR GET MORE INFO
Writers and directors should email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information and fill out this form to submit scripts or to register their interest in directing. Actors should sign up for auditions when they are advertised by following our public Facebook page, joining our mailing list, or checking the audition page on the website. Please do not email us to ask for acting roles or paid work.

2024 NOTE: Scripts without potential directors are currently unklikey to be produced, as there are few directors looking for scripts at the moment. But you may still enquire.

DEADLINES
You can now make submissions for summer and autumn. The final deadline for round two will be announced later. Please register your interest and we’ll work from there to make theatre happen!
