WHAT: Auditions for The Woman in Black, directed by Beth Morton and Joan Nordlund
WHEN: Monday 3rd September, 6.30pm to 9pm
WHERE: FINNBRIT, Fredrikinkatu 20 A, Helsinki (MAP)
Our spring production of 2013 will be The Woman in Black, adapted by Stephen Mallatratt, from the book by Susan Hill.
The Woman in Black is a ghost play which creates a tense and eerie world for the audience. The dark tale, told by Mr Kipps, with the help of an Actor, transports us back to Eel Marsh House where our visual and audio senses will be heightened in order to feel the supernatural atmosphere of the story.
The roles for 2 males and 1 female will pose psychological challenges for the successful actors and require a great deal of in depth development. With the use of sound and imagination also being key factors in portraying the story for the audience, the actors will be required to consider their physicality and voice in order to create tension.
All three roles carry the same weight of importance to the story, with the role of the Woman being the most physically demanding, as she has no dialogue and must play the strong, pivotal character only through movement.
Due to personal circumstances the play will take an unconventional directing format. Beth will be the responsible director for most of 2012, handing over to Joan in mid-December.
Rehearsal times will be one weekend day per week (12.30pm – 6pm) during the period September-December 2012, and twice weekly after the Christmas and New Year break. We will draw up a detailed rehearsal schedule early in September.
First read through at FINNBRIT on Sunday 9th September (2pm – 5pm)
