Saturday November 7: Trumpet and Drums Workshop, from 11 a.m., until 4 p.m., at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20 A 9).
“Trumpets and drums - creating drama without actors…” Matthew Wooller offers the Players an introduction to writing music and designing sound for the stage. The workshop will be interactive, with practical examples and composing / mixing sessions. This will be no hardcore music theory, just a straight-forward look at how to use music to build mood, drama and tension. More details here:

Here's what's happening this month:

Friday 23rd: Play Reading, 7 p.m. at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20a).
The play to be read will be announced shortly on the mailing list. As usual, we read a play, allowing all who attend to participate in reading experience. As always, bring refreshments and a friend.
Don't forget that play readings are not performances - everyone gets to participate!

Saturday 24th: Drama Incubator, 2-5 p.m. at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20a).
Do you like Laurel & Hardy? Clowns? The Marx Brothers? Charlie Chaplin? Mime?
Then October's Drama Incubator is for you! We'll be taking a look at physical comedy, so make sure you bring along some clothes you can move around in.

Saturday 31st: Hallowe’en party, from 7 p.m., at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20a).
Spooky Porter organises our ghoulishly gregarious Hallowe’en party. The best costume wins a prize, and by costume we don't mean simply a comedy hat. Expect quizzes, improv and pumpkin carvage.

Join us for another evening of comedy with a selection of plays by American & Canadian writers.

The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion by Stephen Massicotte
An intelligent, witty and at times very moving study of two heroes after their return home from the First World War. Lawrence of Arabia and the poet Robert Graves are two haunted men - armed with a talent for practical jokes - who grasp at love and dare to imagine a new world.

An Eastern Fable by Sam Bobrick
The Philadelphia by David Ives
Two short plays dealing with a couple of curious American maladies.

Saturday September 5: Auditions for Betrayal and More, 1 p.m., at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20 A 9).
Auditions for the autumn’s main production (comprising 8 plays in total) will be held at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20 A 9), from 1 p.m. onwards. Auditions typically last until the late afternoon. Thursday September 10, 17 & 24: Poetry & Jazz, 7 p.m., at Arkadia International Bookshop (Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 9).
Poetry & Jazz  – autumn 2009 will soon be underway.  The program will contain poetry of many styles, a story and dialogues. Most pieces are written by the performers and a few by well-known authors, with a theme of 'Lives and Deaths'. Music will be provided by a clarinet played by John Millar. Directed by Joel Holmberg.

Free entrance. Fresh tea will be available.

Friday September 18: Play Reading, 7 p.m., at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20a).

Sunday April 26: Theatre Technical Workshop

This spring, the Finn-Brit Players will be organising a technical workshop, where we will cover as much about sound and lighting design and operation as can possibly fit into one day, to produce a sound track and lighting plan for a simple play. If you're just curious about what the people wearing black get up to (and why they always look superior), if you're interested in becoming a techie, if you're a director who wants to learn more about the possibilities of sound and lighting, if you're already a techie and want to learn more (or show off your new Maglight or Leatherman) - welcome! The workshop will run in FINNBRIT Premises (Fredrikinkatu 20 A) on Sunday 26th April from 12:00 to 18:00, organised by Fionna O'Sullivan, Nick Meinke, and Antti Hermunen. Sunday May 3: Nick Hennessey

Storyteller & Musician Nick Hennessey will be hosting a workshop on the skills of storytelling. During the workshop, you will look at structure and style of traditional stories, and explore the techniques used to tell them well.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity not only to meet a master storyteller, but to learn his craft. More can be found out about Nick at www.nickhennessey.co.uk

Here's what's happening in February:

Feb 13. Play Reading

As the title suggests, we read a play. Out loud. One person leads the group, and everybody gets a chance to read. Jack Leo will be leading the first reading of 2009. 7pm at FINNBRIT (Fredrikinkatu 20 A 9) Bring a bottle and a friend

Feb 28. Drama Incubator

Drama Incubator is a chance for you to get together with fellow thespians to work on whatever aspects of theatre you're interested in without the stress of a major production.

In the February workshop, we'll be looking at direction and examining the effects of performing the same text in a variety of different styles - comic, tragic, romanic, etc. So come along and experiment!
